Scores Dropped across the District

MAP SCORES DECLINE

Across all of Rockwood, MAP scores have dropped.

The above graphic reflects the change between the last two sets of test scores.

The graphic below goes back a year further and shows where we are compared to 2018.

Because scores also dropped from 2018 to 2019, the point drops, combined, increased.

ALL STUDENTS/WHOLE DISTRICT

These numbers are the percentage of all students in the district who are proficient or above in that subject. Proficient means students have learned what they’re supposed to learn.

Covid restrictions and virtual learning likely played a role. Parents are concerned the recent shift to focus more on ideology, agenda, and, social justice themes in lesson content may also play a role.

With learning loss due to covid restrictions, many parents say there's not one extra minute to teach concepts that aren't measured by standardized tests. That means topics like gender fluidity and identity oppression have no place in class lessons.

They're not in Missouri's learning standards
They're not on the MAP tests.
They don't help proficiency.

Scores are from standardized tests given in April 2018, 2019, and, 2021.
Because of COVID-19, no tests were given in 2020.

______________

What is MAP?

MAP = Missouri Assessment Program

Standardized tests measure how well students acquire the skills and knowledge described in the Missouri Learning Standards (MLS)

__________________________

Summary:

ELA dropped 3 points from 2019; 4 points since 2018.

(ELA = English Language Arts)

Math dropped 7 points from 2019; 9 points since 2018.

Science dropped almost 4 points.

Social studies dropped more than 20 points.

Note: Missouri's Department of Education offers disclaimers about not comparing scores from year to year due to various changes. However, when we spoke with data analysts at DESE, both emphasized that, regardless of any changes, the data still represents how students performed that year, with the way the state tested students that year.
